Liverpool make late move for Cristian Tello

Cristian Tello

Reports originating from Italy claim that Liverpool have made a late move for Cristian Tello.

The 24-year-old, who can play as a forward or a winger, is currently on a 2-year loan at FC Porto. He made the switch there from Barcelona in July 2014 but the Portuguese outfit aren’t interested in taking up their option to buy him.

Italian side Fiorentina recently agreed a deal to sign Tello on loan with an option to make the deal permanent for £6m but reports claim that Liverpool are trying to hijack the move.

Prior to today’s claims, the player’s agent Josep Maria Orobitg suggested a deal with Fiorentina was already in the bag.

He had told reporters: “Porto, Fiorentina and Barcelona are negotiating the player’s transfer. I think that he will sign with Fiorentina before the weekend.

“Cristian wants to join Fiorentina because it would be a chance to join another great team. He comes from Barcelona, and though we respect Porto, we believe that Fiorentina would be a big step forward in his career.”

Tello has been linked with Liverpool ‘on-and-off’ for some time.
