So these days (geez that makes me feel old), when you look at who wins titles and champions leagues it usually relates to who has purchased the most players. Take last season's FA cup for example. Now I love the fact that Liverpool are currently a reasonably wealthy club (now) but what if, just what if you could even out the EPL and reward those clubs that invest in a youth system.
how? Introduce a salary cap. Now what this would do is put a lid on how much players can earn through wages. This would need to be introduced by UEFA accross Europe otherwise players would just go to which ever country paid the most. If clubs were told to cap player salaries at say 20mil then it would gradually level out the competition and provide options for youth players to develop within their own club.
Other benefits would include a stronger English team (in theory) and also would stop the formation of a big 4/5/6 with the EPL.
I know this concept will not be popular with everyone because they fear that Liverpool might not be able to stay up in the top 6 if the competition evens out. But surely its got to be better than the current 'who ever pays the most, gets the best players'.
Many other sports use this system and creates a very good even competition. (NBA, NFL, AFL all use a salary cap system)

Even without this salary cap and [oops]. Younger players are coming on. I dont understand what is this problem with younger people not getting a chance. If a player is good enough he will get a chance and if doesnt, then he must understand that he is not good enough and find a smaller club. Look at germany even without these rules and salary caps younger players are coming out. So why do we need this new rules? Younger players will any how come into the game otherwise footbal would stop. So why do we need these [oops] rules?
UEFA are introducing the new rules to limit spending more than you earn. That's a good step.
Salary cap is a problem, because it only makes sense if everyone is equal, which can't happen. If we introduce it in England, and Spain don't, all the best players will go to Spain. If the whole of Europe agrees it, then players will go to the lowest tax areas, or tax-free like Monaco. You can never make it fair, there are too many differences between countries, so why bother trying.
Rewarding clubs for investing in youth already happens. Look at Barcelona. You just need a smart club that realises this.
If I have interpreted it correctly, the new rule only applies to clubs competing in the europa league and champions league. And the actual financial stipulation is that a club cannot report operating losses of more than �40m over 3 seasons. So in other words, it's going to be quite easy to exploit and actually won't make a huge difference - but what do you expect from football's governing bodies?

calm down dude, just food for thought. Not try to change peoples ideas just throwing it out there. My point regarding younger players is that they are just purchased the second they show promise in lower league clubs. This system would reward a club who invests in a youth development system .

As much as we all want this to happen, I don;t think its possible. The top teams will always be paying the highest wages to lure the top stars. Unless of course, Fifa/Uefa step in and set the record straight, which I highly doubt.
Good suggestion, in theory, it would save clubs from themselves.
However, the problem occurs when you try to police it. Clubs will cheat, as they will with the new rules coming in. And to be totally honest, with businessmen like Roman running the show and other like him at other clubs, I am sure they have the business nous to be able to hide things to make everything look above board. What you then have is a lopsided competition that only looks equal. Here in Australia we have a salary cap on the rugby league. The most successful team of the last decade was busted cheating. They only got busted due to informants (disgruntled employee)not good policing, as a result they were stripped of there titles, and those titles are now non-existent and haven't been award to the runner up. The history books say Melbourne won, with an * saying they cheated. That is the joke our lovely game could become if we introduced a salary cap.
