When we hear talk of the great Liverpool centre backs a name that rarely gets mentioned is Phil Thompson. Itís all Hansen, Lawreson, VVD etc. I was very young when he played so just wondering how good he really was? Given he was club captain Iím surprised he does not get more acclaim.

I think Thompson's reputation has been hit abit in the 90's when he was assistant manager and had a few run in's with various squad members, but he was an excellent CB for us, we have had so many great CB's, I guess it is easy to realise how good some not mentioned so often actually were.
