Guys

Dominating games, having loads of chances but just not putting the ball in the back of the net. This problem has been going on for quite a while now and Jurgen is clearly struggling to solve it. It could well end up being the difference between us and the other title contenders:

-Man City score freely.

-Chelsea had the same problem last season and seem to have solved it by signing Lukaku.

-Man Utd have signed Ronaldo and have Cavani on the bench.

What do we need to do? Is it a new formation or do we need a change of personnel? A £100m signing of a natural finisher that none of our boys seem to be?

I'm not sure how to solve it but I do painfully notice how we dominate games only to struggle across the finishing line.

We do appear to be winning games, we do score but we seem to be struggling and I completely agree with your assessment that our profligacy will cost us the title by 2 or 3 draws which should have been wins.

Last night Milan have 2 chances and score both times, many teams do this against us but we can't do it against them.

I can see exactly what the problem is but I don't know a pinpoint solution.

It's not like we miss the difficult chances... I think Mane has had about 10 1v1's in the last 3 games only to convert once. The decision making around the box is atrocious... so many build ups just end with a stray pass or a poor cross.

I personally think it's a lot of carelessness, we create so many chances that they almost don't take the danger moments seriously... if that makes any sense.

I hardly ever see Mane or Salah try and set someone else up when they are in a better position to score, I imagine it wouldn't work in practice but I'd be tempted to set up an assist bonus rather than a goal bonus, players wouldn't stop scoring but they might think twice about setting up a team mate in a better position.

Probably because we do not have any strikers except Origi, all our other players are attacking midfielders converted into strikers including Firmino and Jota. As for Mane, he has a major confidence problem, he thinks too long before shooting instead of doing it naturally/instinctively. So the solution is simple, we need to have a true striker. Last year we should have signed Suarez for...8m as we didn't have more money and he was the best value for money available then, without him Atletico wouldn't have won the league. We just need to find our next Torres/Suarez or even a less injury prone Sturridge. Problem is that we need big bucks for that unless we can get someone with great...potential

Everyone and his dog were calling out for a striker in the window but it never came. Origi is a cult hero for his champions league heroics but he is no Lewandowski. We need a proper no.9 and it will get worse when Mane and Salah leave for afcon. A short term solution is to play all 4 forwards together, last season we did that against city and we looked lethal going forward but it does make us exposed at the back.

I disagree with the OP. We put three past Leeds, Milan and Norwich. Two past Burnley. And we are the only team to score against Chelsea so far who have the best defence in the league. I’ll admit we have been wasteful at times but that will fade when the season starts to really get going, we always go through periods like this. The idea that we are struggling to score goals is laughable. I realise everyone, including me, wanted us to sign a striker but that hasn’t happened so let’s just get on with it. The front four of Bobby, Mo, Mane and Jota will be good enough to win trophies if they all mostly stay fit, which hopefully they do…

Except when they play Spurs obviously….

But all the close season was pointing to using Ox as an alternative to Bobby and that was the reason we didn't bring anybody in? Liverpool Echo was running PR for FSG on this angle. Then the perfect opportunity to actually try this out, we didn't? I'm sick of BS appeasement, the elephant in the room is becoming more apparent!

After last season's horrific injuries to our defence you'd have to think our biggest drop off from the season before when we won our 1st ever Premier League Title would be from Goals scored against us...however the biggest drop off was actually bigger for the amount of goals we scored!

Season 20/21
Liverpool GF 68 GA 42

Season 19/20
Liverpool GF 85 GA 33

Season 18/19
Liverpool GF 89 GA 22

Season 17/18
Liverpool GF 84 GA 38

For the 3 seasons prior to last season we were scoring 80+ goals a season...last season it alarmingly dropped off by almost 20 goals average...

I thought we were a stats club?

Last season was blamed on our defence but in my opinion our attack was the problem.

Our front three or four are ok but no back up or alternative options when game not going well, that’s obvious to all

A team is built from the back. Last season we had our only three first team CBs out injured which had a knock on effect on the whole team. We couldn’t play a high line which hindered the attack and we had to take players out of midfield, Hendo and Fab to play at CB at times which massively effected the whole team. It’s extremely naive to think we lose all of our CBs and the only consequence is that we concede more goals, every single player from Alisson to Bobby will have been effected by this. This is why we couldn’t buy a win in Jan or Feb, eventually we found a new way of playing towards the end of the season and things went back to somewhat normal. If you build a house on poor foundations, it doesnt matter if the you spent 1M doing up the attic, it’s prob gonna collapse in on itself.

Just a disclaimer: I’m all for bashing FSG but don’t think your arguments here are very good.
