Steven Gerrard tipped to become new Rangers boss

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard looks set to be confirmed as the new manager of Rangers this week.

The 37-year-old former Reds’ skipper, who now works as a coach at the Liverpool Academy, is believed to have indicated to Rangers that he is willing to accept the job subject to a few minor points being agreed.

Former Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister is expected to be appointed as his assistant at Ibrox.

Gerrard has previously rejected other approaches to move into management including an offer from MK Dons in 2016, an offer that he said came too soon.

Back then, Gerrard said: “I spoke to MK Dons. I had a chat with the chairman, it’s a very exciting job for somebody else but it’s a bit soon for me. But it’s true, I did speak to them.”

KopTalk sources claim that Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp has welcomed the idea of Gerrard gaining experience north of the border as part of his schooling to become a future Liverpool manager. Some have even suggested the appointment would be like a ‘loan move’ for Gerrard as part of his coaching path to hopefully manage the Reds one day.

As yet there has been no official statement from either Gerrard, Rangers or Liverpool Football Club.
