Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino is hoping that Virgil van Dijk will make U-turn and remain at the club.
The 26-year-old centre-back has handed in a transfer request in the hope of pushing through a move to Anfield. Liverpool have as yet not made a fresh offer for the player but will swoop if Southampton admit defeat.

Commenting on the situation, Pellegrino said: “My reaction is the same I said three weeks ago. We are expecting him to come back to train with us because we need the player.
“We cannot control every single situation. Virgil is part of our club. He has a contract but we are now waiting.
“Hopefully he can change his point of view. The club was clear from the beginning with the player.”
Pellegrino also confirmed that Van Dijk will not be available for their opening match against Swansea tomorrow due to a virus.
