Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benítez has been linked with a possible switch to La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.
Reports claim that the Newcastle United gaffer is wanted by the Spanish outfit who sit just above the drop zone in La Liga.
With Newcastle having not secured new owners there is a possibility that Benítez could leave the North East in the summer if transfer funds fail to materialise.
Real Sociedad sacked coach Eusebio Sacristan in March and have drawn up a list of possible replacements with Benítez positioned firmly as their primary target. Reserve-team coach Imanol Alguacil will remain in charge of team selection until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Newcastle legend Shay Given has called on Mike Ashley to hand over more transfer cash in the summer.
He said: “Hopefully Mike Ashley does dip into his resources and give Rafa finances in the summer to build the club up.
“During my time at Newcastle, we were in the Champions League and challenging for the Premier League, that’s where that club belongs.
“But for that to happen, Rafa needs the backing of the owner and hopefully he gets that in the summer.
“So far he’s had to wheel and deal but you wish he had a bit more money to compete with the league’s big boys.”
