Rafa Benitez

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez showed his support for ‘Run For The 96’ by attending the event at Stanley Park yesterday.

The 56-year-old Spaniard wanted to support the Hillsborough families and also some of his family members who participated in the 5k run which enabled Reds and Blues to come together to remember the 96, the survivors and their families.

Rafa said: “I am really pleased to be here because I want to support the memories of the 96. I think that is really important.

“Also my family is running so I will be supporting them.

“I didn’t know if I could be here today but I am here to show my support.”

Benitez remains in talks with Newcastle about remaining as their manager for next season. It is reported that he has agreed terms on a 3-year deal but will hold further talks this week to confirm that he will have the final say on transfers.
