Mo Salah

Don’t be flapping if you hear chatter today that suggest Mo Salah could be on his way out of Liverpool next summer.

These claims originate from football hack Duncan Castles and an article that was published in The Daily Star newspaper in which they have quoted him. Do we need to continue? Well, we’ll continue for the lulz. It’s the international break and there’s nothing else doing so let’s see what sh*t is being chatted.

Castles basically suggests that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus could make approaches for the Liverpool ace next year and that Liverpool could be tempted to cash in.

Speaking on something called the Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: “Well you have to say there’s still areas of the squad that needs improvement. They’re light in terms of backups in defence, particularly at left-back.

“They could clearly do with a creative midfielder and they have needed that for a while.

“Then there’s also this kind of feeling, an informed feeling in football, that Mohamed Salah might not stay at Liverpool for the entirety of his career if he has another season like the last two seasons he’s had and one of the really big names of European football, the absolute elite clubs, if a Barcelona or a Real Madrid, possibly Juventus, come in and say: ‘We want to sign this player and we are prepared to go to the huge transfer fee that would be involved to take him’, whether he would push for that move. If he does, then obviously he would have to be replaced.

“And if he does, maybe, maybe, that’s not something that Liverpool would be adverse to if the numbers are right for them. If they can bank 150million Euros of profit on Salah’s purchase from Roma and subsequent sale to one of the top clubs and they have a replacement lined up knowing that they have retained Firmino and Sadio Mane …

“We’ve seen that there’s some issues between Mane and Salah at present in terms of who’s gonna be the top goalscorer in the team. Maybe that would be a strategic way to go forward and improve the team even further.

“They could buy a replacement for Salah, retain a very good attack and use the profit to fix two areas of the team in the same window.”

Hmmm. So Castles thinks that “really big” European clubs may tempt Salah: the “elite clubs”. Has he forgotten that Liverpool are the reigning European Champions having now won Europe’s ‘elite’ competition six times?!

Look let’s cut to the chase. These words are nothing but idle speculation. The reality is that Mo Salah is not looking for a move. We absolutely believe that and we trust nobody, but we’re convinced he’s a happy bunny at the present time. We also believe the club when they say he’s not for sale, although we’re not that naive to dismiss the fact that everyone has a value.

Do we think Salah will leave next summer? Truth be told, we don’t know. We haven’t heard any such suggestions from anyone that is credible. However, we do know that Salah is under immense pressure from senior figures and in particular, politicians, back in Egypt, to make the switch to Real Madrid one day. Such a transfer, an Egyptian being signed by the Spanish giants, would be MASSIVE for Egypt and the pressure that his country would place on him to eventually fulfill such a move if it is presented to him will be immense. Honestly, you’ve gotta feel for the lad.

For now though, Salah’s happy where he is and there’s no sign of Real Madrid sniffing around him.
