Manchester City have launched an attempt to recruit Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
It is claimed that City boss Pep Guardiola is willing to blow Liverpool out of the water with a £50million offer for the 25-year-old centre-back.
City director of football Txiki Begiristain has been trying to negotiate a deal for the Dutchman in the hope of securing a January transfer with talks said to have been underway for a couple of weeks now.
A purchase during next month’s window would, of course, result in Southampton demanding a premium fee but the suggestion is that City are willing to pay more now rather than wait until the summer when there may be further competition.
Liverpool have been interested in Van Dijk for quite a while but the club can’t compete with that kind of spending power should a situation like that develop. However, at this time, no deal has been agreed and the player remains available. Liverpool will be monitoring the situation closely.
KOPTALK sources believe Klopp is more interested in Hoffenheim’s Niklas Süle. The highly-rated 21-year-old has been on the top of the manager’s wanted list all season but it sounds like he could be on his way to Bayern Munich in a £20million deal.
