Arsenal boss Unai Emery is expected to rotate his squad for this evening’s League Cup tie against Liverpool.
Senior players such as David Luiz, Calum Chambers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Granit Xhaka will all be rested ahead of their Premier League fixture against Wolves on Saturday.
Emiliano Martinez should return in goal with Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding pushing for inclusion. Lucas Torreira and Joe Willock are likely to be deployed in midfield while Mesut Ozil could be recalled, but few Arsenal fans would be surprised if he continues to be snubbed. The German has been included in the Gunners’ squad, though.
Bukayo Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli are all expected to figure.
Reiss Nelson continues to be unavailable due to a knee ligament injury.
Like Arsenal, Liverpool will also make numerous changes this evening.
Speaking in the match-day programme, Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp said: “Although not certain, the strong likelihood is that a number of our younger players will feature in some capacity tonight.
“In Milton Keynes, Caoimhin Kelleher, Ki-Jana Hoever, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster all started and equipped themselves superbly.
“Herbie Kane, Pedro Chirivella and Sepp van den Berg all came on off the bench.
“Ki-Jana isn’t available to us at the moment because he is away with the Dutch national team with his respective age group.
“The attitude these players showed in the last round is exactly what will be required this evening, if again given the opportunity.”
Caoimhín Kelleher is a confirmed starter in goal while 18-year-old right-back Neco Williams is hoping for a start. Williams has been promoted from the Under Under 23s to the first team due to Ki-Jana Hoever’s participation at the Under 17s World Cup with The Netherlands. Trent Alexander-Arnold will no doubt be rested which could open the door for Williams.
