There is further speculation today regarding Liverpool’s reported interest in Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt. Reports originating from Spain, which mainly focus on Barcelona’s interest, also claim that Liverpool have now approached Ajax regarding their captain
A source on the KopTalk members’ website claimed several weeks ago that Liverpool were keen on De Ligt and since then a number of articles have appeared in the mainstream media saying similar things.
At the time, the source commented: “We are making a move for Matthijs de Ligt but there’s a lot of competition.
“I think it’s more of a let’s try and see because Barcelona have been favourites for a long while.
“He’s also previously expressed an interest in playing in La Liga.”
More recently, the player himself admitted that a move to Anfield could happen.
Talking about the possibility of playing alongside Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool, he said: “It could happen. He plays for Liverpool, a good club, but I’m not focused on them. I focus on Ajax and then I’ll see where I end up.”
Barcelona remain favourites to land De Ligt but Liverpool must feel they have a chance of securing a deal if the claims we have made an approach are true.
Liverpool are also looking at Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi and Real Sociedad’s Diego Llorente.
