Reports today claim that Liverpool are continuing to monitor Portugal international Gelson Martins.
The 23-year-old winger has been linked on-and-off with the Reds for several years and despite him only having made the switch from Sporting Lisbon to Atlético in the summer, when he terminated his contract following a training ground attack, it is claimed that Liverpool are still tracking him.
Having played only 30 minutes of La Liga action so far this season, the suggestion is that Martins could be regretting his decision to accept a 6-year contract from the Spanish outfit. However, today’s reports concerning Martins, who scored 13 goals and 13 assists in all competitions last season, are very speculative and don’t really add up.
Martins hasn’t indicated that he’s unsettled and Atlético boss Diego Simeone insists he has big plans for the player who is also attracting interest from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur if you choose to believe the reports.
Despite being available as a free transfer in the summer, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp never made any real attempts to bring him to Anfield and turned to Xherdan Shaqiri instead.
We had a stronger interest in the former Sporting ace during the previous year but Klopp went on to sign Mohamed Salah from Roma, a decision that has proven to be the right one.
