Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with a possible move for Schalke 04 centre-back Ozan Kabak.
Reports originating from Germany claim that the Reds have made a formal approach to Schalke for the highly-rated 20-year-old Turkey international (1 cap).
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is close to securing a transfer to Zenit St Petersburg and if today’s reports are to be believed, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has identified Kabak as a potential replacement.
Klopp’s friendship with Schalke coach David Wagner, formerly of Huddersfield, could help things, but that, of course, is not going to have any bearing on Schalke’s valuation which is mooted at being between £30-£40million.
Kabak only signed for Schalke last year for a bargain £12million due to a release clause, but speculation suggests he may have to be sold because of Schalke’s financial problems.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have also been linked with Kabak, who earlier this season, spoke highly of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
At the time, he said: “My personal aim is to become a top defender in maybe two or three years, like Virgil van Dijk. He’s my idol, I really like him.
“I like his style and how he plays, so I can say he’s my football idol.”
Liverpool continue to be linked with a number of other centre-backs including Ben White, Nathan Ake, Dayot Upamecano and Leandro Cabrera.
