Denis Zakaria

Reports today claim that Liverpool are interested in Borussia Mönchengladbach ace Denis Zakaria.

The £43million-rated defensive midfielder has been in impressive form this season and speculation originating from Germany claims that Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is monitoring him.

Zakaria, who stands tall at 6ft 2in, can also operate as a centre-back and that versatility could interest Klopp who is expected to make changes to his midfield options in the summer. Adam Lallana’s contract expires at the end of the season and there’s no sign of the Reds taking up their option of an extra year. There are suggestions that Jordan Henderson will be allowed to leave if someone steps in with a decent offer while Naby Keïta is also rumoured to be unsettled. Additionally, James Milner isn’t getting any younger. He’ll turn 35 during next year’s campaign, assuming he’s offered an extension.

The 22-year-old Zakaria only joined Borussia Mönchengladbach 2 years ago but observers feel that he could be on the move during the January transfer window with Manchester United mooted as a possible destination. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a replacement for Ander Herrera who left Old Trafford for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer and Zakaria is said to be under serious consideration.

Borussia Mönchengladbach only paid BSC Young Boys (Switzerland) £8.7million for him but his valuation has rocketed as a result of his performances. It is claimed that the Germans would dig in for a fee in excess of £40million if Premier League clubs make any formal approaches in the hope that they’ll back off.

Although there are suggestions that Zakaria could be Old Trafford bound in January, additional reports in Spain and Italy claim that he is more likely to move during the summer window opposed to the January window.

Zakaria is the kind of player that Klopp would be attracted to and we’re willing to accept that he’s been monitored by the Reds. However, at the present time, there’s no credible sources reporting that he will be part of a recruitment attempt in January or the summer, although that may change.

We’d recommend keeping an eye on his performances and reports that continue to link him with a move to England. United’s interest appears quite serious, but a move to the fallen Premier League giants may be seen as a step down in his promising career.
