Liverpool FC officials claim that they have not thrown the towel in on trying to tempt Virgil van Dijk to Anfield despite Manchester City appearing to have emerged as favourites to land him.
Manchester City appear to be in pole position to secure a deal for the Southampton defender and are reportedly willing to pay up to £60million to make it happen. It has been reported that the player has agreed a personal package worth £200,000-a-week with City, a salary that Liverpool FC officials claim they are prepared to match.

However, the player’s representative continues to provide Liverpool FC with positive feedback and although his client doesn’t appear to be desperate to make the switch to Anfield, his agent continues to claim it hasn’t been ruled out as yet.
Liverpool supporters are starting to lose some faith with this one but Anfield officials are letting it be known, albeit off-the-record, that they are still hopeful of convincing him to make the switch to us.
Chelsea have also offered the 25-year-old Dutchman a contract so ultimately it’s now down to him to decide where he wants to ply his trade next season.
