Guillem Balagué has reiterated his claims that Barcelona are not interested in signing Liverpool FC midfielder Philippe Coutinho.
The Spanish football pundit continues to play down the suggestion that Barcelona will make an attempt to sign him in the summer.
Balagué said: “His entourage is clearly working to move him to the Nou Camp.
“There are different reasons why Barca will not go for him. One is the cost and the other is they think he’s a forward rather than a midfielder. And of course, they are completely sorted in attack. They are looking for a different type of midfielder.

“Nobody doubts Coutinho’s quality but Barcelona don’t have the money to be getting three or four top players for their first-choice line-up.”
Balagué backs up our claims that Barcelona don’t want to spend big to land the Brazilian. However, he suggests they have no interest at all whereas we believe they are interested in signing him but only if a deal is financially attractive to them. And, if it’s financially attractive to them, that means it won’t be attractive to Liverpool. Coutinho may have to sit tight where he is for a little longer.
Reports in Spain hugely contradict Balagué’s dismissals. The Spanish media insist that Barcelona want Coutinho but that the player would need to apply pressure at Anfield to force a lower valuation and exit.
Balagué is a good talker. He comes across very well and is very knowledgeable about La Liga matters. However, he often says one thing in England and one thing in Spain. He once insisted that Fernando Torres was Old Trafford bound and back in 2015 we published an article that claimed Jürgen Klopp would be confirmed as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement imminently which went against Balagué who had Tweeted that the German would snub Liverpool and hold out for Bayern Munich. 3 days after his claims Klopp was confirmed as our new manager.
He’s a good guy and he’s worth a listen but our opinion is he feeds out certain claims and opinions to help his La Liga contacts. We pay little attention to his claims surrounding Liverpool FC now that Rafa Benitez his Spanish contingent have left the club.
Don’t dismiss Balagué’s claims, just be cautious.
