Liverpool Football Club tried to re-sign Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season in a desperate attempt to hold on to him.
The Reds made the request to Barcelona during transfer negotiations but the Catalan outfit insisted that the proposal was not an option and that only a permanent and immediate transfer would see them hand over the £105m upfront payment.
Coutinho is currently undergoing his medical in Barcelona ahead of a £145million record deal after stepping in himself to make it happen. It is understood that the terms of the transfer dramatically changed when Nike announced his imminent arrival before Liverpool had given the green light. The deal nearly collapsed as a result of the blunder and it is understood that Coutinho intervened by waiving £11.5million of money intended for himself to make the transfer happen.

Meanwhile, it has also emerged that Luis Suarez helped his former Liverpool team-mate find a house in Spain before the deal had even been confirmed which would explain the ‘Coutinho House Hunting’ reports by the Catalan media just over a week ago which were foolishly dismissed by the media closer to home.
“He saw that a house next to his became available,” said Coutinho. “He didn’t know I was coming for certain but he liked the idea.
“It’s a kind gesture. We’ve seen the pictures, the views look amazing.
“We are in touch all the time and I look forward to seeing the property with my family.
“I know Luis will help us to feel at home.”
