Liverpool have agreed a £3.75million deal with Reading for Tiago Ilori.
The Championship outfit were interested in taking the 23-year-old Portugal Under-23 international on loan with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer but the Reds have been able to secure a permanent exit for the player now.
Reading have been given permission to discuss personal terms and if those are ironed out, Ilori will then undergo a medical.
Signed in September 2013 from Sporting Lisbon for £3.5m, in a deal that could have risen to £7m, Ilori failed to make an impact at Anfield, having made only three senior appearances which were all in the FA Cup last season.
While with Liverpool, Ilori has had loan spells with Granada, Bordeaux and Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Coventry City defender Cian Harries (19) turned out for the Liverpool Under-23s against Bangor City last night.
