Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp still has Schalke 04’s attacking midfielder Max Meyer (21) on his radar and could make a move for him in the summer.
You may recall that we reported last year that Klopp had made an enquiry about his availability but with suggestions that his club were looking for a fee in excess of £40million for a then 20-year-old, you can see why that interest soon cooled.
Meyer now only has just over a year remaining on his contract and he has hinted that he may not sign a new deal with Schalke. Many expect to see him make the switch to the Premier League in the summer with Tottenham confirmed admirers, but chatter suggests that if he does become available then Klopp will consider tabling a formal offer.
Although his club were looking for a premium fee last year, with his contract now running low, he could be on the move for around £20million or less with Schalke knowing that they risk losing him on a free the following year. Reports suggest that Klopp feels he could land Meyer for as little as £14million if he becomes available.
Klopp is keeping a close eye on him so we would advise that you monitor his contract status as the summer approaches. This one isn’t idle speculation.
