Jordan Henderson suffers injury setback

Jordan Henderson

Liverpool will be without Jordan Henderson for the next couple of games due to the hamstring injury he sustained during the 1-0 Premier League win at Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

The 28-year-old Reds’ skipper was substituted during that match after reporting a tight hamstring and will now miss Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade at Anfield and Saturday’s visit of Cardiff City in the Premier League.

However, Gini Wijnaldum (illness and a knock), Sadio Mané (broken thumb) and James Milner (hamstring) have all been deemed available for selection following their minor injury problems.

Boss Jürgen Klopp commented: “Hendo got a little hamstring injury in the game. From what I understand, it is not too serious but enough that he is not available tomorrow or at the weekend. From that day on, we will count the days and hopefully against Arsenal he can be back.”

On the others, he added: “Sadio looked good in training in the last two days. He trained completely normal so if nothing happens then he is in contention. We have to see.

“Millie looks fine and should be okay, Gini got a knock on his Achilles but should be okay … [we have] a couple of problems, but still enough players to choose from tomorrow night.”

Midfielder Naby Keita remains out after picking up a hamstring strain on international duty.

“Naby is in a good way already again, he is outside running and we will have to see, take it day by day,” said the boss.

“We cannot put any pressure on that so we will have to see when he is fully fit. It shouldn’t be that long anymore.”
