John Barnes linked with return to management

John Barnes

Liverpool legend John Barnes has been linked with a possible return to management with non-league Wrexham.

The 55-year-old who has had unsuccessful spells as a manager with Celtic, Tranmere Rovers and Jamaica, is reportedly in the running for the Wrexham job following Sam Ricketts’ departure.

Digger has been backed down from 25/1 to the 7/4 favourite to be appointed which will surprise many observers of the game.

Interim boss Graham Barrow says he doesn’t want the job on a permanent basis despite many supporters calling for his appointment.

Barrow commented: “It’s a dream position. Everybody knows the club is in a healthy position on and off the field.

“I think there will be a queue around the stadium if it was advertised.”

He added: “I enjoy want I’m doing but I don’t enjoy some of the stuff that goes along with management.

“I prefer to be on the training pitch and in the dressing room and helping the manager.”

Wrexham currently sit 4th in the Vanarama National League Table.

We’d be surprised if anything came of this but as they say, it’s a funny old game!
