FSG deny Amanda Staveley takeover bid

John Henry & Tom Werner

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have denied claims that they have rejected a takeover bid from Liverpool fan Amanda Staveley.

Within an hour of our earlier report that Staveley had seen a £1.5bn offer rebuffed by the American owners, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner appeared via the local media, who have until this evening being rather silent in relation to the ongoing claims, to issue an immediate denial.

Werner told The Echo: “We have better things to do than batting down rumours about negotiations with Ms Staveley. However, there’s no truth to them.”

In our previous report, in relation to the local media, we wrote: ‘We expect denials will swiftly follow from them in due course.’

We certainly didn’t expect them to kick into action so soon. Some fans will no doubt suggest that Werner was expecting these claims to be fed out from the UAE this evening hence his immediate availability.
