Reports originating from Spain claim that Barcelona finally expect Liverpool to step up with a €30million (£26.47m) offer for Jasper Cillesen.
The Reds have been linked with the 29-year-old Dutch international – along with a host of other goalkeepers – for months now but reports suggest that boss Jürgen Klopp is now ready to table a formal bid.
El Mundo Deportivo claim that Klopp remains concerned with the performances of current No.1 Loris Karius despite continually backing him in public.
Simon Mignolet remains a Liverpool player but his representatives are trying to find him a new club while Danny Ward is expected to be handed an opportunity to prove himself.
Sources close to the Cillesen camp claim that the player has offers on the table from both Liverpool and Chelsea while Arsenal have also been mooted as having an interest. Anfield officials however deny that any offers have been made either to Barcelona or to the player via his agent.
Speaking recently, Cillesen said: “I need to wait patiently. The only thing I know is that Barcelona won’t sell me.
“Arsenal and Liverpool aren’t bad clubs but if Barcelona say, ‘We love you,’ then I’ll accept their decision and continue there.
“I’ll wait until we return on July 16 to see what they’ve decided. I don’t know anything. If the club wants to keep me, I’ll accept that. I signed a five-year deal with them.”
Liverpool remain interested in recruiting a goalkeeper and there are even suggestions from elsewhere today that Roma’s Alisson remains under consideration but with only a few weeks to go of the current transfer window, many supporters are starting to worry that we may go into the new season with Karius in goal after all.
