Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain considering Liverpool offer

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is considering a firm offer from Liverpool and will make a decision over the coming weeks as to whether to make the switch to Anfield or to stay put at The Emirates.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp wants to sign the 23-year-old midfielder and an offer has been submitted via his agent. The response so far has been positive. However, there are concerns at Anfield that the player’s camp is using our interest as leverage at securing better terms from Arsenal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain only has a year remaining on his existing contract and Arsenal want to retain him but with speculation surrounding their manager Arsene Wenger, things are a little unsettled at The Emirates.

The player, thanks to his agent, has been linked with numerous Top 4 clubs over the last few transfer windows but whether any of that interest has ever been genuine remains to be seen.

Earlier this month, a source posted an update on our members’ website that claimed Oxlade-Chamberlain’s agent was set to meet with Liverpool representatives.

He said: “I have it on good authority that his agent will meet with Liverpool this coming week. However, Liverpool are going into these talks, if you can call them that, a little suspicious of the agent’s motives (leverage for a better deal from Arsenal).

“It might be worth listening out for this one again over the next fortnight should something leak.”

9 days later and credible reports from the like of The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe state that the player is now considering pushing for a move to Anfield.

Writing today, Bascombe says: ‘Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is considering quitting Arsenal for Liverpool this summer, tempted by the prospect of playing in his favoured central midfield role under Jürgen Klopp.’

Bascombe also touches on the possibility that Liverpool could be being played. He adds: ‘The Merseyside club are mindful of the possibility their interest could be exploited as a bargaining tool as the player ponders the merits of signing a new deal in London.’

Speaking recently, Wenger spoke of his hope that Oxlade-Chamberlain would sign a new deal with Arsenal.

“He has to commit his future to the club and hopefully he’ll do so in the summer,” said the Gunners’ boss.

Rumours claiming that a deal is already in place that will see the England international move to Anfield are premature. There is no agreement between either clubs or the player and Liverpool officials at this time.

Will he make the switch to Anfield? It’s too early to say but if the player tells Arsenal he wants it, then we are confident it will proceed.
