It is concerning regarding Wijnaldum because he has been an ever present in the 1st team under Klopp and got some vital goals for us.
Does seem strange that the club would allow his contract to wind down to under a year left. His Agent is Football Mix B.V. who are not that well known with Gini being far and away their biggest Client. I can't see there being any over the top requests from Gini or his Agent to a new contract, so it must be Liverpool's top brass procrastinating.
My guess is they get it figured out before the end of the transfer window and FSG wheel him out as a "New" signing...they've done this plenty of times before...they're very good with slight of hand tricks are FSG..."OOOh, look we've managed to persuade Gini to stay for another 3 or so years"!
At 29 it is quite usual for players to be getting to the end of their contract, usually they want a big long term contract, so say 4-5 years, but the club often just want to give 1-2 year contracts as you don't want players on big money well past their best on long term contracts, like Ozil & Sanchez.
It's probably Wij last chance at a big move, so he will be making sure he makes the right decision, also, Klopp needs to start rebuilding the team over the next few years, we have a few players in MF in early 30#s with Wij, Hendo & Milner, so maybe now is the time to cash in on Wij and bring in a younger MF player. People have pointed out he has played 30+ games for the last 3-4 season, which is great, but our MF is one of the hardest working in World football, so it must take it's toll on players, so judging that is key before giving long term deals.
