Modric had a much better world cup than both Messi and Ronaldo, this is what made the difference. Yes VVD had a better CL but Messi still won the golden boot ahead of Mbape. It was close but more people voted for Messi.

I´ve said it before and will say it again. Individual prizes are all well and good but the team and winning trophies is what matters.

Who cares - these award shows (just like Oscars, Grammys, British Bake off, etc.) are all politically driven, purely subjective, and in no way reflecting of a true meritocracy. Pay it no mind and worry about real trophies. I'm sure VVD has put it out of his mind already - and it should be given no more credence than the annual joke that it is.
