Typical FIFA with its crapfest of awards. Yes, nice that Klopp won, as deserved, but the FIFA team is insulting. Despite the fact that the prem teams completely swept all competitions last year - there are only 2 prem players in the team (both Liverpool). There are no Man City players whatsoever - no Sterling, Aguero, Mane, Salah, Trent or Robbo. Messi beat Van Dyk despite having an off year - and the FIFA team has 6 Real/Barca players that did nothing last year either. It's almost like a 2017 team - as if last year didn't happen at all. Do us a favour FIFA - scrap your farcical award show - it's a complete joke.

Goalkeeper - Alisson (Liverpool/Brazil)

Defenders - Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax and Juventus/Netherlands), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid/Spain), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool/Netherlands), Marcelo (Real Madrid/Brazil).

Midfielders - Luka Modric (Real Madrid/Croatia), Frenkie de Jong (Ajax and Barcelona/Netherlands), Eden Hazard (Chelsea and Real Madrid/Belgium)

Forwards - Kylian Mbappe (Paris St-Germain/France), Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus/Portugal), Lionel Messi (Barcelona/Argentina)

It's actually 3 players from the EPL, you have to count Hazard in it. It's true though that it doesn't reflect the performance in Europe but it's a vote by captains, managers and journalist and a lot of them probably voted on who they think is the best player in those position without looking at the performance in the season. A lot of players do not watch most of the games, maybe the system needs changing. Messi by the way scored a huge number again bit didn't win the CL because of one game. Anyway, voting just brings some objectivity in a very subjective exercise.

Maybe due a change in the ranking process to reflect the performances for the past season. Add a component that’ll award bonus points for domestic, European as well as international results.

To be fair Messi won the golden boot scoring 34 I understand, so it's not like it's not deserved, it's an individual trophy.

Yah but it’s a world player award.
If someone from the smaller European leagues score 50 goals, he wins?
Bonus points for domestic, European/Other continental, international performances will allow a more holistic approach.

No there are coefficients depending on the league, scoring 50 goals in Albania is not the same as in the EPL or La Liga. Messi won the golden boot as per set rules with coefficients

What it really all proves is that FIFA is still rotten to the core!

I don't know how you made that up, if anything they should only allow football journalists to vote as players and coaches don't watch most games, not even in their own league let alone in other leagues. This is why it is less controversial in world cup years as all the focus is on one tournament.

Does anyone really give a flying duck about these awards?

That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.
