Report: Liverpool want Milan prodigy Gianluigi Donnarumma in £40m cash-plus-player deal
Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly desperate to lure Gianluigi Donnarumma to Anfield from Serie A outfit AC Milan.

It hasn’t been the easiest of seasons for Gianluigi Donnarumma. A campaign which began with AC Milan fans turning on him publically amid drawn-out negotiations over a new contract ended with two horror moments in the 4-0 Coppa Italia defeat to Juventus.
But Donnarumma is still the best young goalkeeper in world football and will take over as Italy’s number one at the age of just 19 with the legendary Gianluigi Buffon announcing his retirement from international football after two decades of service.

Reports have continued to link this teen sensation with a move away from the San Siro, however. And Premier League giants Liverpool have suddenly emerged in recent weeks as perhaps his most likely destination should he part company with Milan.
Calciomercato is reporting that The Reds are so enamoured with Donnarumma that they are willing to pay Milan £40 million and let the Serie A giants sign a player of their choosing, within reason of course, as part of a cash-plus-player deal.

It will be interesting to see, for example, whether Liverpool would be keen to offer Simon Mignolet as a sweetener. The Belgian shot-stopper is expected to leave Anfield anyway after losing his place between the sticks to the improving yet still erratic Loris Karius.
An initial £40 million fee would make Donnarumma the most expensive goalkeeper in footballing history.
