By the end of September, Liverpool will be in the infancy of next season. I realise that this might seem a premature time to anticipate what your minimum expectations/hopes are for where the club should be at the end of the next window, but ultimately we're within sight of the finish line this season, and transfer window talk is almost a full throttle...

Key Areas for Comment:

Expectations in the league for this season?

Finishing position? European Qualification? Minimum Points? Remaining Results?

Expectations for outgoings in the transfer window?
Minimum outgoings? Players we must get rid of? Players were should have moved on from?

Expectations for incomings in the transfer window?
Minimum incomings? Prime targets we should sign? Targets you'd like considered? Positions?

Expectations for starting next season?
Formation change? Plan B? Full strength starting line-Up?

Just to start off the thread, here are my thoughts.

My Comments:

Expectations in the league for this season?

Minimum Expectation is to finish 4th. Hope the club finish 3rd or above in an automatic qualification position for the Champions League. I'm expecting a base minimum of 24 points before the season finishes. I'm hoping we manage to remain pretty much unbeaten in our final 11 games, perhaps one result aside.

Expectations for outgoings in the transfer window?
I expect at a very bare minimum that Lucas leaves, along with Manninger, Bogdan, Wisdom, Sakho, Jones, Dunn and Stewart (8 players). I suspect that Mignolet, Moreno, Sturridge, Randall, Flanagan, Markovic and Ings might be sacrificed for the benefit of facilitating more incomings. I hope Can stays. Questions might now resurface over Lovren too.

Expectations for incomings in the transfer window?
I expect that a minimum one big target is signed in the summer, two if Sturridge leaves as expected. I expect those to be a winger-come-striker and winger-come-attacking-midfielder. They are required to address the imbalance of options up front. I expect a combative-midfielder to be signed. I would also expect a left-back to replace Moreno (should he leave) and a goalkeeper to replace Mignolet or Ward should either leave. I firmly expect the club to make a central defensive signing. If Can leaves, there may be another opening for a central midfielder to join. I would hope that we could sign (names indicating standard of target) Julian Brandt/Quincy Promes, Christian Pulisic/Inaki Williams, Naby Keita/Mahmoud Dahoud, Ricardo Pereira/Ricardo Rodriguez, Van Dijk/Jonathan Tah, Jordan Pickford/Samir Handanovic.

Expectations for starting next season?
I don't expect a formation change. I don't expect a Plan B, as such, though I expect the team to be more versatile in positions and changes, certainly with more pace in our offense. Minimum expectation is that we start with a new centre-half in our first choice starting XI, on paper, even if they haven't started the first game, and a vast improvement for cover in midfield, out-wide and up top.

I could see going into next season, a squad looking like:

Karius, Pickford, Ward
Clyne, Flanagan
Milner, Pereira
Matip, Lovren
Tah, Klavan, Gomez
Henderson, Can
Wijnaldum, Grujic
Lallana, Keita
Coutinho, Brandt
Mane, Williams
Firmino, Origi, Ings

Yeah nice list of new signings there JJ, but unlikely I fear. I expect to see more of the level we been getting, maybe one decent signing to keep the fans at bay, if we're lucky. Also I think we've already blown our chance of top 4 this season, and we'll pay the price for failing to strengthen, when the dogs in the street knew we needed to. It was nothing short of criminal neglect, and should we fail to make top 4 as I now suspect, I'll regard it as a stackable offence. Surely someone has to be held accountable for this craven dereliction of duty to the club and fans?

I think this has pretty much been covered already in current threads.

I'd hope we at least challenge for the league next year.
Not have our season end before February.
I hope we avoid the Europa league this year and somehow qualify for the CL.

In terms of transfers. I feel we need to give karius a year or so. So let's get an older keeper that can mentor him.

Victor Valdes would be great for a year or two.
Gael Clichy or Alexander Kolorov would be better than Milner.
Ben Gibson or Michael Keane for a centre back with matip if he can stay fit.
Gary medel or kondogbia whoever comes has to be a specialist DM.
Kyllian Mbappe or inaki Williams. We lack so much pace when mane is out.
Valerie Germain is a bit different to what we have and would be a good plan B

But I've no idea who would come to us anymore. We are less attractive than Spurs right now. They have a new stadium and are in London. London clubs have a huge advantage unless you're City or Utd. We need to win something to remind people we still exist. Even Everton are spending money.

I fully agree with both posts above, 4 - 5 TCPs along with the best of what we already have would give us the critical mass of quality any side needs to win the league. Sadly I can't see FSG sanction around 160 m needed, nor indeed can I see Klopp doing it either.

We know what will happen...

7 players sold / released...the likes of Lucas, Moreno, Bogdan, Manninger, Sturridge, Wisdom, Sakho.

2 players under the age of 24 with potential, bought for approx' 20 to 30 mill apiece, which in today's market is lowball with little risk.

The rest made up of kids and freebies!

Leicester did it because they played without fear or expectation.
If we don't score within the first 10mins of a game the team and crowd get notibaly nervous.

We need players. Some to excite. Some to defend and all costs.
