We haven't got that.

It doesn't work for us, we've had both Carroll and Benteke and both struggled. There is no way we should be going down the 'target man' striker route again. Unless it's a fantastic player like Lewandowski who can also do everything on the floor, because of course I'm dreaming if I think we could ever sign him.

Yep, Tottenham have that with Kane and Chelsea have that with Costa, they are good in the air, can hold the ball up, can also get on the end of crosses and create things for themselves with good shooting, we had that with Sturridge/Suarez, 1 left and 1 is always injured and can't get his head straight.......

I was hoping Origi could become that all round forward, but I don't think he has it in him, unless we can get a player who can do all that, we will keep playing as we do, as we do not have the players for an alternative. Would it be worth buying a relatively cheap target man type so we can change the game around if we're struggling to play through teams, like a Llorente/Lambert, who is nearer the end of their career and would be happy to be a bit part player/come off the bench? would at least give us options.

Caroll hardly played for us but both couldn't play as alone striker. When we play against teams parking the bus, we should be able to afford 2 centre forwards, one being the strong physical good header type. We should also have quick defenders as we are all the time in their box.

No we need a top striker who is a good header of the ball, we do not even have one true striker, they are all wingers except Origi who is not that great.

Disagree, Carroll was a lone striker for Newcastle when we bought him and that was the best form he has shown at the top level. He also plays up front on his own for West Ham when fit.

As for when he played for us he was always in a partnership with Suarez, never on his own.

Anyway, he hardly played as when not injured, he was recovering from injury under KD and Rodgers didn't fancy him.

Yes that's it.

Chelsea have Costa.
City don't have one (If you don't count Sané who is about similar to Origi but from a midfield position).
Spuds have Kane.
Arsenal have Giroud.
Man U have Ibrahimovic.
We don't have one (if you don´t count Origi).

So all in all what we can do is play about as we do. Most of the time we don't even have a specialist striker on the pitch.

For me the best thing would be if we could sign a versatile striker who can play both with the ball at his feet and in the air when necessary. He should be able to play both as a lone striker and in a partnership in a front 2 and 3.

The question is if we are prepared to sign a player like that. The cheap option will probably not cut the mustard. Over to you FSG/Klopp.

I'm not sure if I'm reading your post correctly but are you saying Man City don't have a proper striker? What about Aguero? One of the best in the business. Sane is an out and out wide player and miles better than Origi.

No Chris I'm not saying that. smile

Sané is indeed a good player. One that we should have been able to sign even under our current owners. He was young and cheap enough for us.

I was talking about physical presence that could be handy against a team sitting deep when/if you want to go route 1 football.

The players I listed are equipped with a physical presence imo. We have none in that bracket atm.

Fair enough.

I would have loved to have seen Sane at Liverpool, he looks the real deal to me. I would have liked to have seen Sterling under Klopp as well as he is getting better every week under Guardiola and looks like he will reach his full potential. In a few years £50million for Sterling may well be seen as an absolute bargain.
