The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Didn’t we see this all in a week at Liverpool between 2 games against Chelsea in the space of 4 days?
Personally, I thought the premier league game on Saturday was great to watch. A master class of tactical counter punches between two great coaches and it would have been a shame if we didn’t get a point from that game.
The Good – Sturridge with 2 delightful goals. When we all thought the acrobatic goal in the cup was brilliant he then comes up with a worldie 4 days later. Most of us thought his time at Liverpool will come to end this summer but we’re now seeing a resurgent goal scorer. I’m sure no one doubted his ability as a striker but his fitness and injuries were a concern for all the fans. When he is fit and firing he can do wonders but I reckon the loan spell at West Brom has done him a world of good. Even though he didn’t get many minutes, when he was there he had a chance to reflect on what a great club LFC is and what he is missing out on. It’s like the saying “we don’t realise the value of something until they go pass by”. Anyway I’m happy to see him banging in goals and long it may continue. An appreciation note should be made to Alisson for some of those key saves as well.
The Bad – Even though he has scored two brilliant goals I can’t still get over the miss at the start of the second half of the cup game against Chelsea. I think that will go down as one of the misses of the season when he had an open net to score. Shaq’s missed chance in the Premier League against them was also hard to see. He could have announced himself with a goal when we needed that spark. Some may argue that he went with his weaker foot but I reckon that was the right foot to use in that scenario but he tried to be too cute by trying to put it in the corner rather than importance on making the best contact on the ball.
The Ugly – Saving the worst for the last; Moreno’s performance in the whole cup game made me wonder why he is still at the club. I understand he is a good lad to around doing pranks and keeping the happy culture around the team but his prime focus should be playing for LFC. It started with a silly free kick given away early in the first half and I never felt comfortable him playing there. He is good going forwards but his defensive side is appalling. It was a great goal by Hazard which deserves the applause but the way he turned Moreno 3 times before going in to box was horrible to watch. Good to see Adam Lewis developing on the wings for the U23’s and hopes to see he will progress well, eventually to be the backup option to Robertson.
I welcome your thoughts.
